ABOUT

Stone countertops Are All We Do Since 2002.

We know that with so many fabricators to choose from, selecting the right people for your project can be daunting. Da Vinci Stone Design doesn't sell lumber, doesn't sell tile. We only specialize in solid surfaces, and that's the only thing we make. We make your project our only focus. Our mission is to help you through this process quickly and seamlessly.

Our Process

Regardless of the type or size of your stone project, every job starts with a detailed plan. We want to make sure your project is done correctly to your expectations. Here are our recommended steps to properly plan a project with da Vinci Stone Design.

Kitchen Draft on a Paper

Step 1 - Plans & Drawings

Please email drawings/plans of your project. We gladly accept professional or hand-drawn plans. Plans should include all relevant dimensions. Sink center lines do apply. If applicable, please include the placement of the stove/range, sink, and refrigerator. A natural stone backsplash can be a wonderful addition to your stone countertops. If you would like to have us bid this into your design proposal, please indicate placement and height desired on your drawing.

Don't worry about it looking fancy, something like this below will do.

Step 2 – Surface Selection

We offer a great selection of surfaces to choose from. You are welcome to come into our showroom to see them all in person. We also work with several suppliers in the Spokane valley that offer you the opportunity to view surfaces indoors. This is especially convenient in the wintertime, selecting stone outdoors that is wet or frozen can change the color and appear darker than when it is dry also material stored outside for long periods of time can turn yellow or fade in the sun.

We recommend bringing tile, cabinet, and/or paint samples with you when making your surface selection.

Step 3 – Edge Detail

Choosing an edge detail determines the overall style and feel of your project. da Vinci Stone Design offers a variety of edge details, which can be seen in person at our showroom located in Post Falls, Idaho. Our skilled craftsman can also offer custom edge detail if one of our standard or upgrade edges isn't quite what you are looking for.

Step 4 – Sink

Please specify on your drawing which type of sink you would like us to accommodate farm style, under-mount, top-mount, or vessel. Due to the extensive process involved in fabricating and mounting farm style and under-mount sinks, we do charge for the sink cut-out. There is no additional charge for top-mount or vessel sinks. We do have a selection of under-mount sinks available in 18-gauge stainless steel, composite, and porcelain. We offer these at an exceptional price to our customers and reduce the cost of the cut-out when you purchase one of our under-mount sinks.

Step 5 – Granite Or Quartz Template Process

Generally, the more expensive countertops you purchase, like granite and quartz countertops, require a template with a kitchen or bathroom remodel. Countertop fabricators want to accurately cut the material the first time and they would rather do most of the cutting at their fabrication shop. Because of the dust factor, you would want that too.

So, there are two options countertop fabricators most often use to create a countertop template. Those are "digital" and "stick". The digital method involves using a portable computer to record measurements collected from a laser. The stick method involves using either corrugated plastic material or 1/4-inch luan wood strips and hot glue to create the countertop template.

The stick method is the old school method, and the digital template is the innovative method. At da Vinci Stone Design we use digital template technology to give you the very best results.

Please choose what sink you would like in the tab below and we can give you a quote on a high-quality Karran sink.

Step 6 – Digital Slab Layout

SlabSmith Technology

SlabSmith technology is the process we use to create the perfect countertops for our customers. This process involves the latest in technology which allows us to choose the perfect design to fit your needs.

Step 1:

After deciding on which slab you want to use, we take a high-resolution camera to take photos of your slabs. Our photo station is set up to calibrate each photo for size and color accuracy of each slab to create the best picture possible

Step 2:

One of our CAD designers will convert your initial drawings from template to a digital drawing file. These drawings are accurate to within a fraction of an inch of your kitchen.

Step 3:

Digital drawings are now manipulated into individual pieces of your kitchen, using a program called SlabSmith. By doing this we are able to move the pieces around on the slabs until we get the best-looking countertops and seams.

Step 7 – Saw Programming

At Da Vinci Stone Design we use only the best CNC equipment to cut your project. This will give you the best quality possible.

Programming is the step where we take the digital laser template we made of your kitchen or vanity and turn it into a cad file. This file tells the saw how and where to cut on the slab.

Step 8 – Removal And Disposal Of Old Countertops

We do offer removal service of your old countertops for a fee as a convenience if you’re not comfortable with that task. Please specify on your drawing the type of existing surface we will be removed for you. We have licensed and bonded contractors we work with that we can recommend helping you with this process.

Step 9 – Installation

  • We deliver our countertops directly to your home.
  • Please ensure all pathways, access points and floors are clear of all debris prior to our arrival.
  • Please ensure all sinks and faucets are on site.
  • PLEASE do not schedule other trades that may interfere with our crew.
  • We use silicone to glue our counters down, and so you will need to allow 24 hours before plumbers or electricians return to the site to finalize their work.
  • Prior to our staff leaving your site, they will clean up after themselves, and leave warning notices for all other trades to stay off the countertops.
  • We suggest you also inform your builder and all other trades to stay clear of all counters, including standing and sitting on them, and placing their tools on them.
